I believe the following information from Jo Church, Marion County, SC finally makes
the connection between Thomas, Jr. and Thomas, Sr. as father & son.

From: JoChurch D <JoChurchD@aol.com>

Re Jo's information on the Edgecombe Co, NC families: There was a Robbins
family in Marion Co, SC, on Buck Swamp. They resided and owned lands about
1800 in vicinity of Samuel Smith lands on Buck Swamp and seemed to be located
on what is now Hwy 917 between Smithboro and Latta. This family, if I'm not mistaken,
was headed by a Thomas Robbins. They are found in the deeds of Marion Co.

Thomas probably was still living in his father, Jacob's household in Edgecombe Co.,
NC on 1790 Census, because he would have been only about 15 years old:

Thomas, Sr. didn't marry until about 1802-04 so was still in his father's home in 1800.

Thomas, Sr. & Mary moved from Edgecombe Co., NC sometime between 1810 & 1814,
when he bought land on Buck Swamp in Marion Co., SC on 24 Jan 1814 from Charles
Moody, Sr., who may have been a relative of Mary's, but haven't proved this yet.

On 24 Jan 1814 Charles Moody, Sr of Marion Dist. to Thomas Robins of same place for $700,

Swamp. (It would seem to me that Thomas recently came into quite a good sum of money to be purchasing all this land.) Signed: Charles (his mark) Moody;
Wit: Samuel Smith, Salathiel Moody, James Whitehead; Milly (her mark) Moody, wife of Charles Moody released dower 15 Feb 1814; Recorded 15 Feb 1814.

The 4 older sons did not move to AL with Thomas & Mary in the 1830s, but John had moved
there by 1845. Frederick stayed in Marion Co., SC until after the 1840 census was enumerated,
then moved back to Edgecombe Co., NC for awhile, but was back in Marion Co. by the 1860
census. Kinchen and Ichabod may have been living with Frederick because I've found no census
records for them in either NC or SC. However, Ichabod had moved to AL by 1839 because on
13 Apr 1839, he bought a parcel of land at Range 17 East Township 4 North - no Section listed;
and on Jul 1, 1841 he bought 3 parcels of land totaling about 127.75 acres in Covington Co. at
Range 17 East, Township 4 North, Sections 3 & 4. He was living in Conecuh Co. by 1860, and
his elderly father, Thomas, aged 85, was living with him. Mary obviously died after the 1850
census was enumerated because she isn't listed in the household of Ichabod in 1860 or on
any later census records.

Notes for Mary CRIBB?

 Old Judge Jones's notes state:  "Thomas Robbins, born 1773, and married Mary Crib/Croft [hard to decipher], daughter of [names erased, but they appear to be Solomon Moody and Priscilla Crib/Croft." He
goes on to list twelve children of Thomas and Mary Robbins.  I'll send his list of names if you want it.  But, here's my question:  Was Mary's surname Crib or Croft?  Why did she not go by the name of Moody?  Or, was Jones's source inaccurate?

Almost all of Judge Jones's materials are oral history notes, some made as early as the nineteen-teens, but most made in the twenties and thirties. Jones interviewed the oldest family members he could.  I have found his notes to be very valuable in giving clues that help me trace maternal lines
and discover the whereabouts of early families that moved west.
